TAKE ME BACK TO THE START

27 June 2004, Sunday

It was the perfect setting to watch the movie. My room was dark, it was gloomy outside and a Gloria Jean French Vanilla coffee in hand. I'm never a big fan of chinese movies, mostly due to my lack of mastering the language (my ancestors are turning in their graves!) so unless it comes with subtitles, i can forget about watching it. My 2 collegues somehow convinced me that it was worth watching (at the very least, it would appeal to a designer apparently) and thru' countless guilt trips about leaving my heritage behind and shamelessly abandoning my culture, i was determined to watch the movie from start to finish, just to prove my point that i can SO sit thru' a chinese movie if i wanted to! So 3 weeks later, i decided it was time to pop the DVD in and watch it. And wow, what a great movie. It made alot of those hollywood blockbusters look shamelessly bland. I mean this movie had substance. It was so appealling visually and the script was amazing. I am impressed. Now that i have opened myself to this, sitting in my room is another chinese DVD from my housemate who thinks now i have to watch more .... I have only myself to blame.
