BACK TO THE START

07 MAR 2006. TUESDAY. 10:21PM.

Remember how much i wanted a piece of steak? Well, looked like i got my wish on Labour Day. Even if Brokeback Mountain didn't win Best Movie, even if Heath was still inaudible the second time around, even if no one came dressed as gay cowboys, the Labour Day Brokeback BBQ at Beebs was a hit. And there were plenty of meat to show ... lamb shanks, beef steaks, kangaroo meat (i stayed clear of that!), chicken wings and sausages, some crazy looking Black Pudding slice (it's pig's blood and crumbs! Ewwww and crunchie!). My, weren't we adventurous that day. We just came short of shooting a moose and skinning it for dried jerky. Why? why? why? is the summer heat staying put? My enthusiasm for long walks around the neighbourhood has dwindled each time the weather forecast tells of more doomed news. My last 40 minute walk in the 36 degree heat turned into a hour and a half epic, with me getting lost and without drinking water. By the time i found my way back to the apartment, i was burnt, suffering some form of heat stroke and hugging the airconditioner. But i discovered new things about my surroundings, like the french patisserie that does not open on saturday mornings, like the secondhand shop that has really bad taste in recycled clothes, but best of all, the quaint "sex and the city-ish" pastry store with the best looking cupcakes i have ever seen! I can't wait to sink my teeth in those ....
